Andy's Aural Advent: 8th Dec. Nicolas Godin - "Widerstehe Doch Der Sünde"
Each track on Contrepoint, the splendid solo project from Air's Nicolas Godin, is inspired by – and built around – a piece of music by J.S. Bach. "Widerstehe Doch Der Sünde" ("just resist sin"), based on a church cantata by Bach, finds Godin working again with Phoenix's Thomas Mars, co-writer of and singer on "Playground Love". The production is wonderfully luxurious (recalling the fantastic Talkie Walkie album); the arrangement soothing yet unpredictable. "We are electronic performers" Air once gargled on the 10,000 Hz Legend track of the same name. Here, Godin is an electronic conductor, par excellence.
